What is ferromanganese? What are the uses of ferromanganese?
The popular explanation for ferro manganese is the alloy of manganese and iron. The raw materials for its production are generally manganese ore, coke, and lime that are melted in a high-temperature environment and fully reacted to form manganese iron. Due to the addition of coke in the smelting process, there is a certain amount of carbon element inside. According to the content of carbon element, manganese iron can also be divided into low-carbon manganese iron, medium carbon manganese iron, and high carbon manganese iron.
The use of ferromanganese can be described as extensive, but ferromanganese is mainly used in the steelmaking and casting industries. During steelmaking, ferromanganese is usually used as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer. Good steel needs to undergo deoxidization and desulfurization treatment during smelting, and the use of deoxidizers will greatly increase its cost consumption. Therefore, ferromanganese is a cheap deoxidizer, and desulfurization refers to the removal of harmful substances such as sulfur from steel, Ferromanganese can effectively achieve the goal of desulfurization, effectively reducing the content of harmful elements in steel, and improving the quality of steel.
In terms of casting, manganese iron is still a good promoter and spheroidizing agent. Adding manganese iron during casting can effectively spheroidize graphite, greatly shortening the spheroidizing time. On the other hand, manganese iron can also significantly reduce the form of impurities in the molten iron, improve the quality of cast iron, and reduce the blockage of the smelting furnace nozzle, effectively extending the service life of the smelting furnace.
